Miles 13th Birthday California Trip- Disneyland Day #2

Since this was the third trip Marti and I have done to Disneyland in the last five years we have learned a few things!  We got up extra early to get through security and were some of the first in line outside the gates of California Adventure before it opened-

6:58 Waiting at the gates for California Adventure

One new thing instead of making us wait at rope drop til 8am they brought a line of us directly back to the Cars ride!  We were so happy we came early!  We felt so bad how long we waited with the twins for this ride at the beginning of their day.
Made it to the front of the Cars Ride 7:38am

The Cars ride is definitely one of my favorite rides at Disneyland.  I keep hoping it will get less popular over time so we could actually ride it more than once without a huge line.

7:51am and already done with what could be one of the longest lines in the park before the park even opens!  We love Stanley!

I made Miles act excited to meet Lightning because I really regret not taking them when they were little!

The Cozy Cone!

8:08am 2nd Ride of the Day Spiderman!

8:26am We loved Soarin'!

We never want to wait in line for the characters but we'll do it this way!  Minnie!

Monters Inc Ride was cute!  8:54am

9:05am Guardians of the Galaxy was more drops than I remembered!  Loved it!
I love Miles' little smirk in this one so much!

9:39 Grizzly River Run

Marti won for the most wet!

10:01 Incredicoaster!  The line was short so we did this one twice in a row!

We always get the num num cookie.  Miles took this picture to send to his friends and brag that they were in school.  Funny and a little mean!

10:57am I'd also never done the Toy Story Mania.  It was cute!  The lightning lanes worked so well this time!  It let us get a new one so often!  I loved that the ride photos were included.  Defiitely worth the money, especially if you do it all in one day like we do!

Miles wanted Carne asada tacos for lunch!

Saw everything we wanted to see by 11:56 am

Onto Disneyland 11:57am!

We didn't do as well taking pictures of all the rides as the day wore on... Marti did most of the ones in the morning- bless her!

One of the Disney photographers got these one of us walking up Main Street!  So nice!

We did Indiana Jones pretty soon, one of our longer waits of the day.

Thunder Mountain 1:06

Tea Cups- You have to do it! 1:44 I remember this doing this one with my brother Jesse spinning when I came as a 5 year old!

We waited a long time for Peter Pan, we'd never done it.  Probably not worth it.  Not sure why the wait was so long for it...

So happy to use a lightning lane on Haunted Mansion- I remember waiting a long time with both Charlotte and the twins for this one.

First time getting the Mickey ice cream!  It was frozen solid!  3:19pm

4:39pm This Star Wars ride is so impressive!  Miles could not stop trying to figure out how they moved us on the transport!  Love the Att Atts and how in character the workers are.

5:06pm A poison apple was on Miles bucket list for the day! A nice little break by Pooh's Corner.

5:31pm we loved that the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse wasn't busy and you could just explore it!  I remember it from my trip as a little kid too.  I was terrified I would fall between the stairs!

5:51 the Jungle Cruise is one of my favorites and it kept being closed.  We were close by when it reopened, I just started speed walking over there!  No wait!

6:08 It's a Small World Ride- you have to do it!  It's amazing it still looks like someone stuck a bunch of 5th grade paper mache projects in a big warehouse!

We decided to walk around Toon Town because we hadn't seen it in a long time!

7:25 Space Mountain!
We decided to go get a spot for the fireworks.  Marti went and got dinner while we hung out with everyone else.  There has to be a better way to do this than waiting so long...

8:57 almost time... Then it got delayed.

I loved the fireworks show so much!

We booked it over for one more ride- Tiana's Bayou Adventure- which is new- it used to be Splash Mountain. 10:02, a bit cold at night but we did it!

Forgot to download this one...
We didn't make it quite to closing at 11pm- 10:29pm the light on in Walt Disney's old apartment above the fire department.  Thanks for creating this magical place Walt!

It was probably the smoothest and best Disney Day so far!  We picked a good day for crowd levels and the lightning lane worked so well and we are getting better and better at knowing our way around!  Loved getting to do this with Miles and Marti!

My watch said I did 32,622 steps that day! Which is about 13.6 miles!  We were definitely tired when we got back!

Miles 13th Birthday California Trip- Beach Day #1

We started a tradition with Charlotte that for #13 birthday we go on their first flight and first time to Disneyland!  I didn't want to drive in LA traffic and Marti is always up for a trip so she's come on every trip!  We weren't sure if she could finish the tradition with Miles with Leo being so little, but thanks to her mother-in-law and Spencer and Leo liking bottles so much she was able to come!  We usually go in September when the parks aren't as busy and it's a little cooler but still warm enough for the beach!

September 3, 2026

Marti pulled Miles out of school early on a Thursday and Maylene dropped us off at Sky Harbor.

First flight always gets the window seat!  He loved it!

Miles took this picture from the plane!

After we got our rental car we immediately headed to Huntington Beach!  It was perfect weather, not too hot but warm enough to get in the water.

We tried digging our feet in and seeing how deep we could get without the waves tipping us over!

Thanks to our Albion obsession we can usually coordinate swim suits!

Super Auntie!

Miles adored this "Whip"

It looked pretty cool when he would swing it above his head!

We eventually checked into Hotel Lulu close to Disney, showered and headed to a Sabroso Mexican food restaurant.  It was delicious.  We shared a California Burrito.  We were uncomfortably stuffed, especially Miles.  We stopped at the Target by Disney to get some breakfast and lunch food for the week. Then headed back to the hotel to get some sleep!
