Sorry it's taken awhile (I'm pretty sure every blog post from now on could start out like that...) but Miss Abigail did FINALLY come home on Tuesday July 6th. Those 2 days and 2 nights were some of longest of my life. I've never cried so much. I just kept thinking of her in there with strangers taking care of her because I couldn't leave her brother all the time. It's so much better having them together! If twins were meant to be separated they wouldn't come together.
Here's Oliver coming home with us on July 4th. It was so bitter-sweet because we were leaving Abigail at the same time. Look at that sad empty car seat next to him.
I wanted to show off a few of the projects my mom and I worked on while I was on bed rest.
I fell in love with these quilts at a very cute, very overpriced children's retailer- let's call them "Crockery Shed" so I won't get sued for copyright infringement or something:-) if you want to see the originals go to this link. I recommend never looking at their website if you want to be happy with other cheaper options, everything is way too cute! I was not willing to spend that much money but I had my heart set on them. Because I have an awesome mom she agreed to take them on for the twins baby quilts from her. Since this is much more involved than her normal quilts I helped as much as I could. I hand quilted almost one entire quilt by myself. All together we figure it took us 4 weeks of bed rest to make both quilts start to finish.
They only sell the girl version so we had to be more creative to make the boy version. I LOVE them! Notice the rick rack, coordinating backs, and the corduroy trunks on the trees.
One of the little girl birds. I taught myself 3 new embroidery stitches to do the beak and feet.
Now that I had a theme my sister Alyn crocheted these darling night owl hats. I can't wait for them to fit! Until then they are decorations. I did splurge and buy the sheet from "Crockery Shed". Target happened to have a boy owl sheet as well- how lucky!
I'd like you to meet Abby and Olly the owls! Again copied from "Crockery Shed's" expensive version. I made the pattern myself and had most of the pieces cut out when I went into labor. So this is what my mom worked on while I was in labor and finished them a few days later. How nice is that?! Charlotte points to them and says, "cute". My mom says they are very cute in an ugly kind of way. Owls are supposed to be quirky right?
Pockets on the back so miscellaneous items including future teeth for the tooth fairy can be stowed.
Abby and Olly the owls with the real Abby and Olly for their first 1 week picture! We're so glad to have them home!
Is the comment moderation still on?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to finally "see" the quilts/owl theme. Those owl creatures are quite interesting! : )
How are you holding up with all the feedings/ lack of sleepings?
Wonderful that Abbie is home! I am sure your nerves are a little less raw. I LOVE the night owl theme. That was Ben's nursery theme and I still love the idea. I might just have to share some decorations when we change the room for baby number two! I think those owl pillows are adorable. I love quirky things (I have two pugs that I think are adorable-the uglier and fatter the cuter to me!). Great job on both the nursery and the kiddos!
ReplyDeleteOh that is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI was happy to see the new pictures of Oliver and Abigail. We wish you the very best.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that everyine made it home. All of the owl stuff is super cute!
ReplyDeleteSo glad Abigail finally made it home- leaving a baby at the hospital is so hard! Abigail is so tiny in that carseat!
ReplyDeleteThose quilts are adorable! Hope everything is going well
SO cute! EVERYTHING- I'm totally in love with those quilts. I don't have 1/10 that talent or access to someone with it so unfortunately I'm a sucker who ends up paying crocery shed prices....but yours I think are even cuter than theirs! Hooray Abbie is home! Babies in the hospital is no fun but I'm glad you've got your tiny little bundles home with you. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI like how your blog matches your whole theme. :) Owls are so darling, I love it. I'm a big fan of the whole scheme and all the pieces. And they are so darling! I guess I'm gonna have to visit Phoenix again so I can see the twins in person!
ReplyDeleteI love the owls. Does your mom take special orders for quilting???
ReplyDeleteI think you've handled it well Erin, your a great Mommy! Good job on the quilts.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so first, your babies are adorable!!! I'm so happy that everything went well, and that they are both home now with you. That must have been so hard to go through, not having Abby home. I love, love the quilts and owls. They are so incredibly cute. Great job! - Juleen
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad they're both home! The quilts are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute stuff! But I have to say, the babies are cuter. They look so tiny in their carseats! Hope everything is going well and you aren't too exhausted. You amaze me!
