Part 2: Potty Training Olly- 2 kids in 2 months

This boy was so jealous that Abby was getting stickers and candy for using the potty.  He started to do it all the time too.  I'd give him candy when he went but I didn't lose the diapers quite yet and I didn't make the potty chart until Abby finished hers after a few weeks.  He would say, "I want a little lightning (McQueen) car when I use the potty.  (long sigh) I gonna be so happy!" Something that was different about him than my girls was that he started to go #2 in the potty all by himself almost every time before I did any official "training".  Just that alone was a big improvement over changing dirty diapers.

April 13th, 2 years 9 months, I dropped Charlotte off at playschool and Abby off at Kori's house.  Yet again, not getting to go to Kori's house was devastating.  I kept telling him we were going to have special mommy/Olly potty party.  Luckily, once the bribery started he was fine.  I wondered if he would love teaching the doll to go potty as much as the girls did.  He picked out cool boy underwear (so hard not to say panties after potty training 2 girls) for him and the doll then we started.  He loved teaching the doll and reprimanding the doll when he had an accident.  He loved all the cars stickers on his chart and every 10 spaces or so he would get a small car toy from the cars movie I picked up at a consignment sale.  When he saw he was close to a prize spot he would suddenly have to go frequently. He did awesome!  Again, I definitely could have tried training him earlier, he was so overly ready.  He has probably been my kid with the least accidents.  I was worried since he gets so into playing he would forget but he rarely does.  He did just as well at naps and night too.  He will occasionally wake up at night to go potty but not often.  He is the one that wakes up super early to go potty and wakes up the girls in the process.  I will often hear all 3 of them in the bathroom together first thing.
He loves showing off his underwear and telling people he's a big boy
The theory that boys are harder than girls didn't prove true for Olly.  I will say that he is WAY worse at getting himself re-dressed.  He's great at taking off the clothes, but he takes them all the way off every.single.time.  He can pull them up okay but he has a hard time getting his legs in.  Both my girls were very good at dressing themselves at a young age.  Olly has no interest in getting dressed.  He's often seen in just his underpants.  I am getting tired of bending down to help him get his legs in.  We haven't taught him to go standing up yet either which might help with the clothes issue- I have no clue how to teach that.  Maybe I'll let Matt tackle that one.

I think it would have been possible potty train the twins at the same time but it was kind of nice to give them that individual time and attention.  A month apart was perfect for us.  It is so nice to be done!  Or as done as you ever are with potty training.
Every time he goes potty he still comes out yelling, "My underpants are dry!"  Waving the underwear in his hand.  Oh the excitement!
It has been so nice to have no kids in diapers.  5 years and 7 months of constant diapers with 6 months of that with all 3 in diapers and another 2 years of 2 in diapers together.  But then they are both done with diapers close to the same time too.  It's nice to have at least a couple months off!

  1. How did you teach staying dry at night? That is our current endeavor. She's got naps if we take a break right before, but nights are proving elusive.

  2. That's awesome that he was so easy! You deserve it having to train two back to back!

  3. Hooray for potty training! Bradford was way easier than the girls were. I put it off so long because I remembered what a nightmare it was with the girls. Bradford took no effort at all.
