Abby's Hairball

On a Monday morning I came out of my room to find Abby running around with this is her hair!  When I asked her why she had a comb wrapped in her hair she said she was combing her hair after I put her to bed and it got stuck.  "I couldn't get it out and I didn't want to tell you and get in trouble so I slept with it!"  I have no idea how she slept with it in.  After working to get the comb out for a long time- because I had nothing else I had to do on a Monday morning (sarcasm),  I finally found a tip online to use wire cutters and cut the comb out one small section at a time and pull the hair over each piece.  It worked pretty well and we ended up with this...
A very matted, very large wad of hair really close to her scalp.  I did NOT want to cut it out, her hair took FOREVER to come in and it grows so slowly and it would have been only about .5" long!  I tried conditioner and working at it slowly with almost no results.  So I left it in there all day Monday and most of the day Tuesday.  I even called to have her tag along to get her hair fixed on Wednesday at my hair appointment if I couldn't get it out.  Then my friend Emily came to my rescue with some detangler she swears by for her 6 month old daughter who has about the same amount of hair as Abby!  It was still hard work and a TON ripped out but it DID come out instead of having to cut it out!

She was a trooper to hold still for so long while I tried various methods to untangle the hairball.  Matt insisted I keep it to stick in her scrapbook- gross!  I hope I never have to do that again!

  1. You are a great mamma. At least her hair isn't "her one beauty".

    1. Thanks Marian! It took me a minute to get the Little Women reference- I was thinking Anne of Green Gables at first! Miss you!

  2. I guess that's where the saying "rats nest" comes from. You were very patient to take 2 days to get it out. I probably would have gone for the scissors. You are a great Mamma. Love Grandma
