Erin's 40th Birthday Trip- Day 1 Savannah- Forsyth Park

I've known for years I wanted a trip for my 40th birthday- traveling- especially to new places or with people I love is one of my very favorite parts of life.  Some of my other plans fell through so I planned a last-minute trip to Savannah and Charleston with my mom and two of my sisters instead.  Bless them for being so flexible and making it happen!  There is literally nowhere in the US that has better weather than Phoenix in January but the South was pretty decent most of the days.  I also love towns with lots of history and beatiful architecture and both of these places really delivered on that too.  We couldn't get Kori to come since I planned it so last minute and it was on the East coast- she was missed!  My sister Alyn has lived in South Carolina for years but I've never been there to visit her so I also got a new state!  I'll have to go back to see her house & hometown but it was a good start!

Here is my Instagram caption from the first day-

How did I spend my last day in my thirties? Woke up at 3:30am and hopped on a plane with my mom & sister to JFK then Savannah, Georgia where another sister picked us up at the cutest airport! We only ate snacks on the planes all day so @treylorparkrestaurants Treylor Park Hawaiian pizza was especially good! We walked around the beautiful Forsyth park as the sun set, I already know I'm going to love Savannah! Then finished up at our Airbnb just over the river in South Carolina to get my #37th new state and have a pj party and watch "The Young Woman in the Sea" which you know I loved a good endurance, historical, strong female story! A pretty perfect day to finish off a pretty wonderful decade!

Look how cute we are- especially mom.  She's so happy when we take her on trips even at 4am!

I made sure to bring an Emma M Lion book or two for everyone!  Mom read the first two on the trip, Marti was on 2 and 3 I think!  Alyn and I were re-reading.

Savannah was the cutest and almost the smallest (I think Provo is smaller) airport I've visited!

I mean- come on- rocking chairs while you wait at the curb!?  Alyn says other southern airports do this too.  Alyn was so nice to drive a few hours to be our shuttle all weekend.  Marti took turns driving too, especially at night and parrellel parking but Mom and I got to hang out in the back!

First stop was Treylor Pizza- we were starving after not really eating all day.

Then we decided to walk around Forsyth park before it got dark!  There were so many runners- I feel like I found my people!  I feel like college towns or places that aren't as hot as Phoenix attract more runners.

They filmed parts of the live action Lady & the Tramp in Savannah one of our tour guides said.

One of the cool things about Savannah is that any old building that is going to be sold or demolished goes to the Savannah College of Art and Design and they repurpose it as an college building so the town looks historic but all the buildings have been updated on the inside.
Lots of war memorials for all the different American wars.

It always feels like magic when we get most of all of us together.
The Live Oaks & Spanish Moss felt like magic too. Despite it being January (they got historic snow later that week after we left) all the parks were pretty green and flowering to me.  I do want to see the South in the Spring sometime because I've heard it's amazing!

PJ movie watching party on my last night in my thirties!  Our airbnb was in Hardeeville, SC so I got state #35 in my thirties!
