We've just finished another batch of remodeling projects so I thought I'd finally get some pictures up. Some of this we did a year ago and some we did this year in November. Here is our hall/kids/guest bathroom.
Before
The previous owners replaced the sinks, faucets, light fixtures, and mirrors right before they sold the house to us. Everything was cream colored and gold originally, they replaced some of it with chrome. The pink counters and cabinets were original but they painted them white and put on different handles. They were in bad shape, the floor tile was cracked/ugly/dirty looking and the kids couldn't see themselves in the mirrors.

Notice the strategically placed dragonflies on the wall when we looked at the house.
We later discovered lots of terrible dry wall patch jobs where the towel racks had been ripped off the walls- Matt repaired all of those when we painted a year ago.
Cabinet install in progress- the paint color is June Morn by Valspar- it's a nice medium teal blue. I found a color I loved on the inside cover of the picture book "Sick Day for Amos McGee" June Morn was the closest I could find. Interesting where you find color inspiration. I like to do a fun color in the bathroom- it's not a big commitment like a big room.
Cabinets assembled waiting for counters/sinks/faucets/handles.
For a whole year we had only concrete floors in both bathrooms and no mirrors in this bathroom- we got used to it. We were just so burnt-out after the big kitchen remodel it was hard to figure out any more details. We finally moved the big mirror from the master bath into the hall bath- it's so nice the kids can see their own dirty faces to wash them! The mirror is not in perfect condition but the price was right and the size was good. We should have done it sooner instead of letting it sit in our room for a year! We might frame it at some point. We still need baseboards in all the areas with new flooring.
After
| We were going to do tile floors in both bathrooms but when we decided to do the vinyl flooring down the hallway Matt thought it would look nice to continue the same flooring into this bathroom too. I'm so glad we did- I really like the wood look and it's waterproof unlike laminate or real wood! We bought the flooring ourselves this time and had our same flooring guy come out to do the the flooring- he does a great job and is so fast. Once you figure out how to do some things yourself and you have remodeling connections it's hard to stop because it doesn't seem impossible to do projects anymore! Remodeling is addicting- except for the expense of course! |
The "You are my Sunshine" picture was my inspiration for the colors. I debated what to do about towel rods with 4 kids using the bathroom- when I saw these bright hooks at Hobby Lobby I loved them and they've worked well for the kids to hang up their own towels now without having to fold them first.
We just had our plumber friend replace the toilet when we had the flooring done. We asked him which kind he recommended- it' the American Standard Cadet 3 and we like it. I was surprised how nice it is to have a shiny new commode- it's mounted much better now as well so it doesn't move all the time. The shower curtain was a wedding present from Target- I've never bought another one- it goes with everything.
We thought about doing a cheaper option for the bathroom counters but in the end I'm glad we decided to do the same granite as the kitchen. It's called new azul aran and it's so pretty. I really wanted the square under mounted sinks- I love the smooth counter top surface and I like that they're more unusual than round or oval sinks. The faucets are the Porter 8 in. Widespread 2-Handle Mid-Arc Bathroom Faucet in Brushed Nickel. Matt put all the faucets in himself- it was so nice to have running water in the sinks again! I like this type of handle with kids- it's easy for them to turn off and on. We did something different in the master bathroom.
Another before picture- I do NOT miss the pink!
We did brushed nickle knobs in the bathrooms. I still want to put up hand towel rings but the kids can reach them better on the cupboards anyway. We also still haven't found a light fixture we like. I can't believe how many cheap looking bathroom light fixtures are out there. If anyone has some they like let me know it the comments. Projects are never done but once we put in the mirror, the toilet, the towel rod and especially the flooring this bathroom felt much more complete.
Our master bathroom has some interesting personalized touches but it still has a long way to go before it's done. Stay tuned for the hall and living room.
