I was supposed to wake up at 4am but someone my alarm didn't go off. Luckily I never sleep well before a race and I'd set another alarm for when to leave the house so I woke up to that one and had to rush and get out the door just like I do on a regular running day! Matt offered to drive us to the start line so we wouldn't have to take the bus. They offered that for the first time this year. It was pretty quick. I didn't feel as cold waiting to race as I have in the past. Thanks Matt for getting up early to do that!
This year I did all my long Saturday training runs with just Stephanie Ison and myself. We ran about 70 miles in the month of January. She is a trooper and has done the half one more year than I have. We both want to finish our Arizona 5 C's and call it quits after the 2020 race. We'll see if we do it!
Stephanie and I stayed together until about mile 8 I think. I could tell she was struggling but I thought she'd catch back up eventually. A big flaw in my training plan is I NEVER run alone. Not because I'm scared to, but I get so bored. I love to talk and run, which I know means I'm not going very fast but I enjoy it so much more. I am strictly a social runner. So in the race when I need to break away it's hard to distract myself. This time I was more prepared and I had wireless ear buds that stayed in pretty well, I still had to mess with them a bit. I was listening to Unbroken for the first time and it did a pretty good job the last hard 5 miles.
Here is my pace each miles
Mile 1: 9:51 pace
Mile 2: 9:33
Mile 3: 9:14 (My fastest for this race!)
Mile 4: 9:27
Mile 5:9:55
Mile 6: 9:54
Mile 7: 10:06 My slowest
Mile 8: 9:52
Mile 9: 9:56
Mile 10: 9:53
Mile 11: 10:05
Mile 12: 9:51
Mile 13: 9:33 Yay finish strong!
I was so proud of how good I felt towards the end! Only 2 miles in the 10 min range. I'm still struggling to find consistent running partners to push me but I have a few who will do a few miles here and there! I'm always proud of myself for doing it and I know I would miss it if I didn't do it but I"m so glad when I'm done training so much!

| Not a PR but done! |
Overall 1846
6.9 1:07:36 Rate 9:48 Rack 130
Time 2:08:45 Pace 9:50
I ran it in 2016 with Sunny at 2:06:51 (9:41 pace)
And in 2017 with Stephanie and Monique at 2:08:32 (9:48 pace)
So I keep getting a bit slower instead of faster. I'd love to PR next year but I need to push my speed and hopefully find some motivation to train more/better. I am always so impressed when I look at how fast some runners finish!
