August Happenings 2026

A few snapshots from everyday life in August this year...

I've been watching this property on Elmwood for 20 years! So many of our good friends have moved from our ward to this neighborhood. When it finally went for sale Matt and I agreed it was worth it to try to buy it now and save up to build on it later. I called the next morning and they had already accepted an offer. Sad for us! It was an exciting half a day dreaming... Who knows if we'll ever move or build but it's fun to dream.

Tuesdays with Leo!

I started watching Leo each Tuesday this school year while Marti works! It's been so much fun to get to see him and be friends! We all adore him and he's usually such an easy baby!

I needed to document how much we spent on Charlotte's violin. This was her big present from last birthday & Christmas- this is even after the credit from renting since she was 10 years old. She was excited to make it into Chamber orchestra- which is the top one with only 9 violin spots at Mountain View.

It's been so fun to see Marti and Leo more with Marti only working 2 days a week!

Mesa temple was closed for 6 weeks so I made it down to Gilbert a few times!

Bath & Body works soaps lined up with a coordinating Emma M. Lion book- yes I'm obsessed!

Love reading to that Leo! He doesn't like to hold still yet but I still try!

My sweet good friend Paula from high school has stage 4 cancer. She lives up in Utah but I wanted to do something so I sent her a book box for the first three Emma books. She said she's been reading them during her long chemo drip appointments.

Once a week Marti and I trade off doing a project at one of our houses! It's been so fun to finally get to do things like this!

Leo and Lizzy! Lizzy loves Leo, Leo is interested in Lizzy but not entirely sure he likes her in his face!

The last day of August was a little cooler so I started a Jane Eyre reading challenge! I used to read this favorite book every 6 months but it has been a couple years I think. It was fun to look for the Emma Lion references... I love reading on our front porch!

Utah Emma Lion Girls Trip- Day 2- Hiking & Book Crawl!

We started our Friday with a hike to Battle Creek falls- it was short and nice!

Erin, Allie & Andrea- so happy to be out of the AZ heat!

Kori & Erin-sister who love waterfalls!

Then we headed back to Kori's to shower and head out on a book store crawl!

First we stopped at Moon's Rare Books

They had amazing first editions of so many books I love! I loved getting to see talk to the employees and I might have teared up when she got out the copy of Jane Eyre!

My parents met us there for a bit on their PDay! I stopped in next door to buy Volume 4 for my friend Paula. My first time seeing and buying Emma Lion in a bookstore in person, not just Amazon.

Then we parked in Downtown Provo and went to Pioneer Books (more of a thrift bookstore). I loved the stacked books around the register and the painting on the front of the building.

Our third and final bookstore was my favorite of the day, Planted in Pages. It's inside a cute historic home and each room has a different genre theme. We walked over from Pioneer books.

They definitely had the best seletion including one copy of Volume 1 &2 of the UK editions- I bought volume 2! Then the cashier told us Beth Brower stops by somethimes (as an author and gardner I'm sure this is exactly the shop for her!) and signs some copies! So then we had to go check all the books! I got a signed Volume 5 copy!

They even had a very well behaved cat!

They also sell plants! What a fun combo books & plants in the same lovely building!

Erin, Andrea, Becca, Allie, Kori- Summer took the pictures!

One of our favorite details was the unique sealing wax stamps on each book package you bought!

We walked down a different street to see more of historic Provo!

We stopped inside the Provo City Center Temple- I love that they turned this historic tabernacle that burned into a temple!

Just as we were leaving the temple a crazy dust storm blew up so much wind and dust- then it turned into rain! We saw this French Bakery & Cafe across the street and decided we needed to seek shelter-

And proceded to buy7 different pastries to share!

We walked around a bit more and saw a few more historic sites and a painting gallery- then decided to try this restaurant Edna's.

Then we headed back to Kori's I put my hair in rollers and we watched Austenland to really get into the spirit of going to an immersive book experience the next day! Allie had never seen it! Lots of Emma theories chatting!

Utah Emma Lion Girls Trip Day 1- Ashford Gardens!

In June when the Utah Emma Lion and Co. Ladies announced their Utah event some of us who planned our Arizona event decided it would be so fun to go and enjoy their event! They were so nice to help us get tickets early when the first batch sold out in 20 minutes before they opened the 2nd batch!

Early Thursday Morning 8/27 Andrea, Allison and I flew out of Phoenix to Provo airport! Kori was so nice to pick us up and let us all stay at the Gammon Hotel!

Allison went and floated the Provo river with a friend right from the airport.

Provo is the smallest airport! I did have one lady notice my Emma Lion shirt and yell across the aiport that she is on Volume 6!

We had a yummy lunch at Wildflower Bread Co. and stopped by Downeast- we are so sad they closed all their AZ stores.

Then we went to Ashford Gardens at Thanksgiving Point! It was a little warm, so no one else was there!

These garden/flower loving ladies LOVED it!

There was even a Secret Garden!

Cool Terraced Fountain!

We threw our coins in! I even made it in the top part of the fountain!

There were two cool scupture garends- one on the life of Jesus Christ and one on the Tree of Life.

Andrea already has a trip back to attend the tulip festival in the spring and Kori highly recommends the quilt show they do there every year also.

2/27/2017 Not wanting to go to sunbeams, "I not free (three) I a baby!" Not wanting to sit in a car seat, "I not free I five!" Wanting to go to the auntie sleepover with the big kids, "I not free I five or seven." and "I sad at you" with big crocodile tears.
