The Soccer Twins

The twins did their first sport, other than a little swimming and tumbling in the summer.  They had soccer practice every Monday and 8 games on Tuesdays.  It made for busy weeks doing practice, family home evening, dinner and running on Mondays.  Then both music classes and straight to soccer games Tuesdays.  We would often pick up dinner at a restaurant right by the Riverview field.  Our good friends the Grovers were the coaches and their son Hudson was also on the team.  I asked Abby if she wanted to try soccer with Olly and she replied, "I think I might be better at the pointy ball (with pinching hand motion)."  She meant football!  Eventually she decided she wanted to try it, so we got two kids at the same practices and games.  It was good for them.  Neither were star players but they both improved.  Olly scored one goal, using his hands a little to stop it before kicking it in, and Abby was pretty good at getting after the ball.  They didn't keep score.
I think they enjoyed the snacks and talking the most.  There was one other girl Chloe on the team.

Some of the games were pretty windy and chilly in the evenings.  Auntie Marti was great and came to almost every game.  Matt managed to make it to most of them as well.  It helped that the field is on the way from work for both of them.

At the first game I had to run Abby to the bathroom right as they were picking Jersey #s.  Olly wanted #1 so Matt got Abby #2.  Of course.  Poor Abby has a bit of a twin #2 complex and wasn't super happy about her #!

Abby is about the girliest soccer player ever.  Pink ball, shoes, socks, and a dress!

Making letters during stretch time.  Their coaches were awesome!
A ribbon.  Poor Abby was sick for 2 of the games, including the last one and she wouldn't pose for a ribbon picture.

I don't know if we'll do it next year, but if we did Charlotte and the twins could all be on the same teams since 1st and 2nd grade are together!  I don't like to be that busy though.  I told Abby a story about how Marti was always good at sports and Abby replied, "I'm good at sports too, I'm a soccer girl!"  I'm glad it gave her that confidence, she even puts on her soccer stuff and plays a game with me in the back yard sometimes!
