New England Trip Part 1: Flying out in and York, Maine

Dream come true.
Bucket list x10.
Best friends/sisters ultimate girl trip.
Fall in New England.
Every last little bitty beautiful state of it in less than a week.
Epic.
I can die happy now.
Oct 10th- AZ-NC-MASS-NH-MAINE
PHX airport!  Better than Christmas I declared!
If I was to tell you one part of the US I've always wanted to visit, New England would be the top of the list without a doubt.  Marti was planning a trip to visit some friends and was beyond nice to let me tag along. And do all the driving. Even in nutso Boston. And plan it and arrange for us to stay at her friends.  Have I told you how much I love Marti and how much she's saved my life in many different ways.  I am the luckiest to get her for my little sister!

Short layover in Charlotte, NC, first time "in" North Carolina.  Wishing we could hop down and see Alyn.  Got a delicioius Pina Colada smoothie, our only breakfast or lunch.
BOSTON!!

We stopped at Wal-Mart and got way too much food for breakfast, lunch  and snacks for the trip. It's harder to keep groceries fresh than you would think!
Drove from Boston to Maine!  Lots of bridges in New England on account, they have lots of water.

New Hampshire/Maine border area

Lobster dinner in Maine- of course!

Sun was just going down as we got to the restarant in Maine.

Always stay somewhere cute.  It adds so much to the experience.  York Harbor Inn.  Perfect anniversary trip someday.  This had a cute little pub/restaurant on the bottom level.  Tiny old staircase hallways.

Marti and I both felt this place is so romantic!  Why am I here with my sister?
One thing I learned is that Gilmore Girl's Star's Hollow is not an exaggeration.  If anything it's a cliche in New England.  Every town is cute and has a historical monument, gazebo.  The lobster restaurant even had a no cell phones sign and felt very local.

Breakfast was delicious!  And we got our first view of York Harbor out the windows, we hadn't seen in the dark! Marti is so pretty!  I love her eyes in this one!

This cliff walk was so pretty! Right across the street from the Inn, which is one of the big reasons we picked it. Not too long but very picturesque.  There were some beaches too.

This hammock would be a sweet place to take a nap, or read a book or watch the sun come up like we did.

Winding cliff walk

I wonder if they do weddings here even though it's surrounded by the parking lot?

We check out of our Inn and drove down the road to the historic (see everything is historic) light house.  It was commissioned by George Washington.
The lighthouse is out on an island.  I assume you get there by that little cable tram looking thing.  I liked to imagine all the people that have lived there over the years.

Off to Vermont (and a little jaunt through New Hampshire on the way).  We only dipped our toe in Maine, but it was one of my favorite places on the trip.  It had a more laid back, rural feel. Didn't feel very touristy or crowded. I'd love to see more of this state!
