6 Month Baby Belly

Here's the belly...

Do you think I look big or small for 6 months? Tell me the truth- I can take it. I don't know if I look terribly pregnant yet or just chubbier. At least strangers haven't started commenting yet. People who know me have though.

I had a doctor's appointment this week and an ultrasound the week before. We've also gone to two childbirth classes and have our last class next week. At the last ultrasound she measured 1 pound 5 ounces which is right where she should be according to my pregnancy book. I think she might be kind of small though because every time I have an ultrasound they tell me a later due date based on her measurements. At 7 weeks my due date was Sept. 22, at 20 weeks my due date was Sept. 29, and at 24 weeks my due date was Oct. 2. My doctor assures me the original due date of Sept. 22nd is the real one since that is usually the most accurate measurement and the baby is a good size. They couldn't see the gender again because the umbilical cord was in the way. They got a good picture last time though.

I've gained 10 pounds so far. My nurse was very proud when I hit the triple digit mark. I wonder if I'll ever see the other side of 100 again or if those days are over. I know I was slightly underweight before but I've been almost the same size for so long it will be weird. I keep asking my doctor if I'm gaining enough and she doesn't seem worried so I try not to worry. I have switched to whole milk and I am trying to fit in more snacks as well.

There are so many decisions to make. I don't know if the childbirth classes are helping or making me more anxious. Epidurals, episiotomies, inducing, birthing positions... I've read most of it in books before but seeing the birth videos is very graphic. I like the breathing techniques, it reminds me of yoga, Matt rubs my back while I breathe which I love. We tour the hospital next week. I'm excited to see it. It just opened last year and I've heard great things about the size of the rooms, the jacuzzi tub, and the food surprisingly enough.

I'm still feeling good. I don't sleep the best and I have to use the bathroom frequently but that is normal. I can feel her move a ton and it's getting more violent. I like feeling her move. I can't believe how fast it's going by. I'm sure it will seem slower once I get big and uncomfortable.

  1. Here you go Erin. I'm commenting on your blog. I think you should keep pushing that due date back until Oct. 14, I hear it is a nice day to be born.

  2. hey Erin! it's your cousin Brittany! I want to assure you you look amazing! I am just about 10 days behind you in your pregnancy and I look like I swallowed a basket ball! Everyone carries differently and I think your belly is so cute and I wouldn't worry about how big or how small you think you are. It could all change in a week. Mine did!

  4. You look like you've just gotten a bit of a chubby belly in that picture. But when I see you in person you definately look like you're expecting to me... who's used to seeing you be my little bitty sister :-) I think you still look small for being 6 months along though (mostly just because it sounds so close to be in the third trimester and you definately aren't huge). Give the squirmy baby a poke for me.

  5. Hey Erin, cousin Brooke here....good to "see" you. I think you look small, but so super cute. I barely looked pregnant with Emma, ever...the second one "shows" faster. 10lbs is great.....
There ARE so many decisions to make about having a baby....just do yourself a favor and be open minded. I had a "plan" and both my kids were (by necessity, of course) born the opposit way I had "planned" Just educate yourself about everything so come what may you are prepared...and then just go with the flow. Congratulations!

  6. Doe the tree represent the before picture? Haha. Nathan says you look huge. But that was his usual sarcasm. I can't wait to see the 9 month belly shot!

It's pretty sad that your final pregnancy weight is still less than all the rest of us could ever dream of weighing... If your belly is measuring correctly, and you're doing all you can to gain 1#/week, and the Dr. is fine with it, then Hakuna Matata.

Enjoy all the free advice! I mean ignore it as much as you can, because all us parents have tons of advice, but don't let it bog you down. Do what works for you, and don't worry about any of our opinions, in the end. That said, the episiotomy and epidural decisions can only be made in the moment. Because you don't know for sure until you're trying to give birth...
