We wanted to take one last trip as a couple before our baby days begin. They call these babymoons when you're a celebrity. We went to San Diego 3 years ago for our honeymoon, my brother Cody and his wife Emilee now live there, it's cooler, and it's fairly cheap and easy to get there. So off to San Diego we went. We left Thursday July 10th and drove most of the day. Cody and Emilee were so nice to let us stay with them and we enjoyed getting to know Emilee better.
On Friday July 11th we went to Sea World for the day. Sea World had this deal where you can purchase 2 day passes for $10 cheaper than the price of 1 day passes. Obviously this is the way to go except we knew we wouldn't use the 2nd day and it seemed a shame to go to waste. So I had the brilliant*(a.k.a. really dumb) idea to put down Cody and Emilee's name so they could use the 2nd day for us since we were already paying for the tickets. Well, never try to swindle someone because then they're going to ask for ID. Matt got out his licence showing he was Matthew Whitmer with a ticket for Cody Diehl. Luckily they didn't look at the ID very closely and just let us slide. We breathed a sigh of relief until we saw the tickets said we had to show photo ID at the gate as well. No one asked for it and we conveniently didn't offer. Just when we thought we were home free you had to get fingerprinted by a machine so that you could verify you were the same person when you came back for your second day. What is this the F.B.I. building? We made it into the park after 10 minutes of sweating but I think it was all for nothing. Cody and Emilee will have tickets in their name with correct ID but not our fingerprints. Sorry guys we tried to get you tickets to Sea World.
The rest of the day at Sea World was much less stressful. We went to all the popular shows, saw all the exhibits, went on a few of the rides, and ate a very overpriced fatty sandwich for lunch. I made Matt go on the roller coaster even though I couldn't go. I'm always amazed at seeing so many exotic animals so close. We had a great day, the temperature was perfect, it was overcast, and by the time we were tired we had seen everything we wanted to see.
Shamu! On Saturday Cody, Emilee, Matt, and I, and Marti (who just happened to be in San Diego too) all went to Mission Beach for a day of relaxing and swimming. Matt is a sunscreen fanatic so we faithfully slathered our entire body (including the bottoms of our feet) before leaving the apartment. However, we forgot to re-apply. After 5 hours in the sun and waves we still got fried. We sound like old people grunting and groaning in pain every time we touch something. It felt so nice to be in the water and spend some time with some of my siblings.
After the beach we cleaned up and went to an Italian type restaurant with great pizza and even better pizookies (half-baked cookie dough with ice cream on top). Then we went to the San Diego Temple which is absolutely gorgeous.
That fingerprinting story is hilarious! Sorry you guys got so fried, sunburns can be miserable. I have to agree that San Diego is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI like the red for the captions. Glad you had fun! That's so funny about trying to pretend to be Cody and Emilee. I think Sea World has been swindled before.
ReplyDeleteWhat was in the "Fatty" Sandwich?
i've never heard of a babymoon...but it makes complete sense! i laughed so hard about the fingerprinting thing--who would have known?? where are you guys living at again?
ReplyDeleteThe fatty sandwich was roast beef (one of the only sandwhiches not boiled in beer or put on beer bread). Budweiser is the sponsor of Sea World I guess. By the time we got to the deli I was too hungry to go anywhere else.
ReplyDelete-We live in Mesa Amy. I never answered your other question either. I taught 5th grade for 2 years and am going to stay home with our baby now. Matt is a computer engineer designing military equipment.
That sounds like so much fun! My parents just went to SeaWorld and dealt with the whole "Bio Scan" thing. What the heck?! That's so weird. Anyway, I'm so glad you guys took a trip! Isn't the San Diego temple amazing?! We loved it while we were there.
ReplyDeleteGuess what sister?! I finally got to go surfing on Monday (two days after our sun-fried day at Mission Beach)! I kinda ended up teaching myself how by watching the other surfers around me, and I thought I was doing pretty well until some kid's dad starting giving me advice out in the middle of the ocean... nevertheless, I did get up several times which is no slouch, eh? Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Erin! About 4 weeks before Emma was born I went to New York City with my mom and Hillary and we had SO much fun. Mike stayed home to do homework and he always said "I really should have gone with you, I had no idea that would be our last trip without a baby..." San Diego looks great. We might be there in a couple of months....we'll have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteHello! It is so nice to meet you! And no, your comment didn't creep me out! I saw a name I didn't recognize so I started reading it aloud to Sam, but I had to stop half way through because I was laughing too hard!! I am flattered that you would read my blog. BTW, we went on our honeymoon to San Diego, too! And I love nearly every book and movie you listed in your profile. We were destined to be friends! Good luck with these last few weeks of pregnancy! (I can't wait to read you birth story, by the way!)
