My mom is an excellent seamstress. She taught me how to sew as a kid. I even made a few dresses for myself, with a lot of help of course. I've made a few quilts as well. I still have a long way to go before I'm ready to do clothing on my own but I've had fun with a few projects.
Remember when I was decorating Charlotte's room I was debating on the curtains? Since her room faces east I decided I needed to get something before the light woke her up at the crack of dawn in the summer. She's still waking up around 5:30 but they sure are cute!
I wanted gingham curtains but they were so pricey. If I bought the material and lined it, they would cost even more. So I found some thicker plain pink curtains at Ross for $10 and gussied them up with buttons and ribbons. Here's the finished product...
I tied a different color ribbon around each of the tabs... I just didn't take another picture.
Since my machine was already out it seemed a shame to just let it sit there so... I decided to finally make that nursing cover (also known by the unfortunate names of Hooter hiders and Udder covers... terrible I know!) I've been wanting. I couldn't stop at just one so I will probably give the other one as a gift.
Excuse the wet baby-food-spill spot at the top.
Then I saw these handy wipie/diaper cases. You just put in the wipie case and a few diapers (and my changing pad even fits because it's thin) and you can put it in any bag. Or take it out of your bag and have everything you need to change them. I loved the contrasting fabric.
I made the nursing cover and wipie case without a pattern. I'm pretty proud, if I do say so myself. I had to put my machine away because we've had family visiting, so who knows when I'll get it out again. So if you're having a baby anytime soon you just may get a homemade gift from me! Let me know if you have requests!

Nice job on all your sewing projects. It's always nice to see your accomplishements. Love your red, white, and blue page on the sides. I love this land too.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed! I think you got the gene my mom and your mom both have- that's awesome. I LOVE that apple fabric (I've seen it at JoAnns) next time I have a baby I'll be requesting one of those nursing covers.
ReplyDeleteCAn I just say that you should open an etsy shop? Way cute stuff Erin-can you teach me? We live pretty close you know!
ReplyDeleteThat is super cute! You did a fantastic job! Sewing can be super daunting. Cute fabric choices too!
ReplyDeleteThese turned out super cute! I would never say no to such a thing!
ReplyDeleteYou are much more creative than me Erin. Keep an eye out for some red curtains for Spencer's room.
ReplyDeleteWow! Impressive! My sister-in-law made me one of those "hooter hiders" and it was really helpful at times. Your curtains are really cute too! Good job! You're much more ambitious than I am.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you sewed! Seriously, those are so cute. I like the patterns you chose. I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed Erin. The nursing covers are so cute!
ReplyDeleteOk, I know that I submitted a comment on here yesterday, but I don't see it posted. Anyway, I was just thinking that I needed to pull out my sewing machine too, but I don't think that there is any way I could make those cool diaper/wipe cases. You did an awesome job!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! We got some black out fabric and attached those to Noah's curtain...definitely keeps out the light AND the heat. Maybe we should have some sewing lessons at a playdate! My MIL is AMAZING w/ a sewing machine too...it's about I learn since Chris can sew WAY more than I ever could.
ReplyDeletei love my hootie hider (and you have to laugh at that name), but it's amazing what the stores/boutiques will charge you. you are quite talented!
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Erin!!! Love Mom
ReplyDeleteSUPER CUTE! You did such a good job on everything! I don't think you give yourself enough credit with the sewing machine! I love all your fabric too. I wish we had a bigger selection here...
ReplyDeleteWow...I'm so impressed. I'm going to have to make one of the nursing covers and maybe I'll try a diaper case too. I loved the curtains too. You did a great job! Do you know the link you got the pattern for the nursing cover for?
ReplyDeleteWe'll no baby soon, but I do love all your new creations. Anyone that can sew without a pattern is a sewing-super-hero in my book.
