Golden Afternoons

Sometimes when Charlotte has been especially cranky and clingy, and
I'm tired
The house is messy
I can't get anything done
and I can't think of what to make for dinner
I think what a hard job it is being a mom and throw myself a pity party.

But somedays when
I go to lunch with friends,
or Charlotte learns a new word,
or gives me a kiss or pats my back,
or falls asleep while I'm holding her
or I have a lazy afternoon in the park watching her excitement about going down the slide for the first time by herself
I think about how I have the BEST job in the world that I get to experience these little moments of joy with a little person that I love so much.  It makes all the work worth it... I need to learn to make and hold onto these little golden moments.

We've been having lots of lazy park afternoons with perfect weather.  One of the wonderful things about being a parent is getting to experience childhood over again.  Until I had Charlotte I couldn't remember the last time I spent an entire afternoon playing outside.  Probably because it hasn't happened since I was a kid myself.  Charlotte is always so happy to be outside- this is when you really could learn to love to live in "the Valley". Today I'm thankful that I get to be a mom and spend some golden afternoons at the park.

  4. We were playing settlers. And then Hurricane Charlie climbed onto the table and attacked the stockpile of Lia's carefully organized roads/settlements/cities. He took way too much joy in the destruction... Is that a golden moment? : )

  5. I love the pictures and your thoughts. It sounds like Charlie might have had a golden moment of fun, but I don't think Lia did. It was great seeing all of you this weekend. I do think Miss Charlotte is beginning to recognize us and be happy to see us. I love it. Grandma

  6. I am in love with the picture of Charlotte reaching out to the camera. That is so sweet and the colors are so perfect! Being a mom is the best job in the world, despite how crazy and hard it can be.
