Midnight Musings on Multiples

Insomiac- n. what you become when you have twins

Everyone expects sleep to become a distant memory with twins, but I thought I had until at least June until it started. Ever since I found out I'm having twins I'm having the hardest time going to sleep at night. My mind won't stop thinking of all the exciting and worrisome things ahead of me. Then I'll wake up in the middle of the night and my mind will start whirring again. I need to sleep now while I still can!

Here are a few of the things I've been thinking of during these late night musings.

-How am I ever going to gain the 30-40 pounds my doctor recommends when I throw up so often and nothing sounds appetizing at this point?

-What was it like to have energy again?

-Man I miss having a clean house.

-I guess I'd better get used to it.

-How do you ever teach 2 newborns to nurse at the same time?

-Will they get enough to eat just nursing?

-I hope these babies take bottles and pacifiers- Charlotte never did very well.

-I'm never going to sleep again... Why am I awake right now?

-2 newborns + Charlotte in diapers is how many diapers every day?

-Can I fit 3 car seats in our car or do we need a bigger car already?

-I've been so spoiled going on all these outings with Charlotte. How long until I can learn to leave the house with 2 babies and a toddler?

-What stroller do you get when a double won't fit in your trunk but you could probably use a triple?

-How in the world do you go grocery shopping?

-Do we give up our office or put all three kids in the same room and hope they don't wake each other up?

-How are we ever going to name 2 babies? We had a hard enough time agreeing on 1 name!

-Are they boys or girls or one of each?

-Are they going to be premature?

-Are they going to have to be in the NICU?

-Am I going to be induced? Have a C-section? Will they insist I have an epidural or do I still get a choice?

-How will Charlotte adjust to this?

-Poor twins never get to be "the baby" but at least they always have someone their age to play with.
