Yep- my friend is a steak... or any grilled meat in general. We FINALLY bought a grill and I.AM.IN.LOVE!! Sorry to all you vegetarians out there, but I come from a huntin', fishin', barbecuin' kind of family. And man oh man have I missed meat! We would have roast and stew, baked chicken etc. But nothing compared to grilled meat. In the last couple of weeks we've had steaks, grilled salmon, BBQ ribs, pork chops, chicken, hamburgers, turkey burgers, grilled bell peppers, pineapple and kabobs. I'm turning into a carnivore. There are some other pluses as well. Matt cooks all BBQ entrees including vegetables so I have a lot less dinner prep and clean up (no pans!!!! can I say how much I don't miss washing pans?!)
In 7th grade while I was reading The Jungle by Upton Sinclare everyday before lunch I couldn't eat meat. I still don't like hot dogs, salami, or pastrami because of that book. I like to know what kind and part of an animal I'm eating. Other than that I obviously got over my meat aversion.
Grilled salmon with lemon and lemon pepper. I realize this doesn't look nearly as appetizing as it actually is- just trust me, it is delicious.
The quality of our dinners just went way up! While we won't be eating steak and salmon every week, even just chicken or hamburgers are so much better grilled. I think I just discovered how I'm going to gain that 40 lbs for the twins! Welcome back dear friend. I've missed you!
Excuse the junk behind it- we still haven't finished post-painting clean-up.
What's your favorite thing to cook on the grill? Or good side dishes to go with grilled meat since that's what I'm in charge of cooking? Any seasoning/marinating tips? Matt read the whole BBQ manual and he's done a great job but we're excited to see how many things we can cook on there.
That looks a lot like Dennon's grill! I agree--it is so nice to hand him a plate to take outside and let him cook. I love love love grilled salmon--Dennon makes it so much better on the grill than any of the ways I can cook it inside. We had it last week with just some lemon juice and salt and pepper before he grilled it, and then we put orange tarragon butter on it at the table. Sounds fancy, but it's just softened butter with orange zest and dried tarragon mixed in. Soo good. We also love to do pizza on the grill. You grill one side first, turn the dough over and put the toppings on, then put it back on the grill till the toppings are done. Way better than in the oven. Zucchini with olive oil brushed on it and salt and pepper or italian seasoning is really good too. Or tomatoes cut in half with parmesan cheese on top and grilled until a little soft. . . no one else in my house likes them but me, but I think they're really good!
ReplyDeleteFaux meats are a million times better grilled too! I'm glad you've found something that you enjoy eating and that the twins will accept!! Happy eating & weigh gaining to you!
ReplyDeleteI raised her well!!! Thanks Matt for continuing the tradition. Love Dad
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe you were craving steak and didn't like it before. Because if that had been the case, you would have been exactly like me! I hated steak until I was pregnant with Aidan, and then i wanted it all the time!
ReplyDeleteYou are funny Erin!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you reconnect with your friend. :) It looks delicious.
Yum, yum. Can't beat a good BBQ!
ReplyDeleteI am officially inviting myself over for dinner. Whenever I get down to Arizona. Seriously. :) That food looks so amazing. Mmmm ... grilled steak ... shishkabobs ... salmon ... I'm drooling. Delicious! Lucky, lucky you!
ReplyDeleteps. if Joseph (sam's bro) gets married this summer, which it's looking like he will, we'll be down in Phoenix for the wedding. I'd love to plan a get-together with you! We could take our kids to a water park or go out to dinner or something. Depending on how you are feeling with your twins!
@J@nAe: Now I want the scoop on Joseph... I'm sure you can play with Erin's babies while she naps, if nothing else!
ReplyDeleteAs for the actual post:
Snort.
Looks like some nice meals. It's nice to have Dad cooking especially when you're pregnant.
ReplyDeleteYum. Can I come to your house for dinner? We love grilled pork chops. Our personal favorite is pizza on the BBQ. I posted it on BonAppetit a while back. You'll never go back to pizza in oven after grilling it.
ReplyDeleteI have to say... YUM! I am in love with food, in general, but grilled, and meat, oh man so good! I think being pregnant also makes the craving that much better! I try to eat other foods, but good meat and potatoes really fills me up when other foods leave me hungry an hour later... or 15 min or whatever :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you've survived all this time without a grill. If I had to choose between a grill and an oven, I might have to pick the grill. I'd say that we use ours at least 4x each week. Glad to see that you finally got one and have found a good way to pack on the pounds for those twins! Hope all goes well at your appointment tomorrow. I can't wait to find out if they are boys or girls!
