Resolution Mid-Year Review and Excuses

First off- 37 weeks!!!! I'm so happy to make it full term for twins! Moving is getting to be pretty tricky though with about 9lbs of baby in there I'm beginning to sympathize with women who have big babies!

I thought I should do a New Year's Resolution Review so I could see how well I've done before I add 2 more babies to the mix!

Here's the run-down, don't be too hard on me- I've done better in some areas than others.
1. 30 min. of scripture/spiritual reading every day A+: I think I've only missed a couple of days since my birthday. It's not always a solid 30 min. and sometimes I'm pretty tired but I've been so consistent and I'm proud of myself for that! I can see how this gives me more perspective and helps me focus on what's important.
2. Sincere morning and evening prayers each day A: I definitely have some sincerity in my prayers these days, I need all the help I can get.
3. Go to the temple once a month B: I've done better so far this year, but Matt and I have had to go separate most of the time and I did miss a month! Every trip to the temple seems to multiply my patience.
1. Because every post needs a picture right? 2. Because I'm tired of looking like I swallowed a watermelon (Cody), beach ball (Matt), volleyball (my dad) 3. Because I needed a reminder that I had a waistline once

4. Make sleep a priority- go to bed early, take a nap B: Doing great on the nap taking, not so good on going to bed early
5. Gain- and then hopefully lose- 30-40 lbs, eat my pregnancy “daily dozen” & 8 glasses of water A- I've gained over 20 but I haven't hit the 30 mark yet, I'm drinking a ton though and trying to eat all my pregnancy requirements which isn't easy. I've even tracked my calories on dailyplate.com off and on to help me with this. If you want a really easy, free way to keep track of what you eat and how many calories you consume/burn this site is great.
6. Stick to weekly cleaning schedule A: Until the partial bed rest (which doesn't count right?) I've done pretty well and I've fit in one deep cleaning project every week. Every time I look in my organized closets it makes me happy.
7. Write in my journal and baby books at least weekly D: How embarrassing! Does my blog count at all? I've only written in my journal a few times- I was great at this in junior high when everything I wrote was melodramatic junk that no one should ever read again. I'd like to keep a better record of my life and thoughts and work on my writing skills though. Maybe being on bed rest and slacking on the exercising and cleaning will help me with this one!
8. Exercise 3x per week C: I was going on at least mile stroller walks with Charlotte a few times a week and elliptical at the gym consistently. Then as I got bigger, and baby boy decided to take up permanent residence on my pelvis; I would get home from my 1 mile walk and feel my stomach muscles start to tighten. It's just too much for my body to carry 2 babies and push a toddler. I was excited to start water aerobics again but even that's out now. Hopefully what I've done will be enough to give me a good delivery and recovery. I was definitely more motivated with a friend to exercise with- Cortney you should have been pregnant at the same time again! On a side note they are building another gym just a mile from our house so it will be easier to go whenever I resurface after the twins are born! Now I just need someone to be my exercise buddy (hint, hint).
9. Read 6 new classic books C+: I haven't read any "classics" but I have read at least 5 books! I just can't get into this one. I've checked out a few classics but every time I read them I feel like I should be reading my twin or baby books before the babies come. Matt and I are working on a Wheel of Time book together (his choice, obviously). I think my capacity to read "real" literature has dramatically decreased since high school. I used to pump out a Dickens or Tolstoy every couple of weeks- now I can't manage a few a year, except for ones I've already read and know I love! Maybe it's less time to read- does anyone else feel this way?
10. Be less critical, more positive and patient B-: Some days I do great, other days poor Charlotte and Matt get to put up with cranky me, it's hard to gage this one. Definite room for improvement.

This post was mostly to give me a pat on the back on a few goals and a kick in the pants on the others. Maybe you'll be inspired to dust off your New Year's goals and see how you're doing. Don't get discouraged, goals are about at least making some progress! There's my motivational speech for the day.

  2. Great job! I'm so proud that you even remember what your resolutions were! And John totally remembers you, just didn't have your name handy. He even met your husband at work. And I did write the post so thanks for the compliment :) My friend Camille does a little contest for "steals" or good deal posts. I fixed the link since you pointed it out. John just read over my shoulder and said, "I remember her as Natalie Brown's roommate who was funny that one time I came over." :)

Best of luck with the babies!

  6. You set a lot of goals for yourself Erin. The twins have kept you from earning that A+ too. Makes me think about what I set as New Year's resolutions. I can't even remember :)Nor do I want to.

  7. Yeah, I think I made some goals at the new year but haven't given it much though since. I don't even have the twin excuse. Good work Erin!

  9. Goals look good my teacher friend. Although, I would have given you a B+ on the exercise, given the current circumstance. Hang in there!
