Matt and the App

Testing his new military type hiking backpack for Scouts. I was embarrassed when he took his school backpack on the first Scout hike!

There are 5 members of the Whitmer family these days. We all know who the three stars of this blog are- and I rate a position as the narrator but our fearless breadwinner rarely makes an appearance so here's a post all about him.

Matt started his last year as a 20-something this month. He joins the 30 club next November. For his birthday he decided to get himself the new Windows 7 phone- and he decided I needed one too since it would mean switching providers. He's been anticipating this phone for a long time. We ended up getting one of the phones for free with a deal they are having. Not too shabby for the "latest" phone. I must admit even for the technology illiterate like me it's pretty darn cool. I love being able to check my e-mail just by looking at the main screen. It even syncs our calendars and pictures so I can add stuff to Matt's calendar! "Fri: 7pm Date night... where are we going? hint hint" etc. :-

He also wrote an app for this new phone and got some pretty cool publicity on some online sites. It's called "Car Bloke" and you can keep track of your MPG, oil, etc. and even graph it. He also designed it to work in many different languages and countries- which was a whole education for me on things like "imperial gallons" and who uses kilometers. Here are a few links about it and the you tube video he made:

He has a few more ideas for apps he would like to write but it's hard to find the time to get it done. I'm just impressed he finished Car Bloke in time for the launch considering how crazy it is at our house.

Speaking of crazy-
Charlotte and Matt have really bonded over the last few months. She can't wait for him to get home and play with her and give her a bath. It's been nice that she will let him do more for her- and he seems to enjoy spending time with her more and more the older she gets. He's been great about taking 2 or even all 3 of the kids so I can get out once in a while- even if I feel like I'm missing a couple of appendages when I do it! He's also always with at least one kid at church now- which means going to church every week feels like preparing, and then surviving a war. Just wait until the twins are mobile- I'm scared to imagine!

He's still doing all the grocery shopping which means there have been a lot more ding dongs consumed (mostly by me)! He's also been helping with dinner either by grilling or picking something up on his way home. The days he goes on scout camp-outs or works late I realize just how much I appreciate having him home in the evenings and weekends! I'd say having three kids has been a much more life altering experience for Matt. I made all of my big life adjustments when I had Charlotte- it's just intensified with the twins, but Matt's had to take over some of my jobs- at least for awhile. Happy late birthday Matt and thanks for being a super Papa!

  1. What an awesome daddy! That is really cool he wrote an app. I Know what you mean about needing help when he gets home from work and on weekends. Your job gets a little easier with the hubby around!

  3. I'll buy the app when Verizon carries that exclusive/expensive phone. Until then, no dice. I am one of those people who writes down all of my fuel logs and such :-)
