In the last 2 years something happened. I'd like to call it the Etsy revolution. Everyone is so crafty. I think with all the craft blogs out there and Etsy giving us access to so many cute ideas, everyone is inspired to create things. The twins received a ton of cute homemade items- in addition to some really nice blankets- and I made a few myself. I've already posted a few of them (like the ties, owl and elf hats, stuffed animals, quilts and some appliquéd onesies). As they grow into these cute things I will post them- because something so cute MUST be shown off!
First off:
Name ABC Felt Books
by my super sweet sister-in-law Emilee. I about cried when she gave them to me they are so beautiful and detailed. She is way too modest, "I hope you like them." Who wouldn't like them? They. are. perfect. I am in the process of trying to make one for Charlotte but there is no way mine will be so meticulous. I seriously look at them all the time and marvel at the beautiful stitching. They are even more gorgeous in person. I might be too embarrassed at the drop in quality to post pictures of Charlotte's- if I ever even get it done! Curse us for picking such long names!
When I first read Abigail's book I thought it was going to do the whole alphabet... A apple, B bird, I igloo? Then I realized it was the letters of her name! I think my favorites are G giraffe and I ice cream but they are all so cute!
Appliqué, Appliqué, Appliqué

I'd never even heard of this until recently. The trees on the quilts we made are appliquéd, the letters on these "twin" onesies and the "big sis" "lil sis" "lil bro" shirts from an earlier post are appliquéd and this cute tie and cherry are appliquéd. It is a handy technique that opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Thank you mom, Becki and Marian- you crafty people you!
I swear they love the onesies Marian- I just waited 'til bedtime to take the picture!
I'm not exactly sure how this next one is done so Stephanie will have to post it in the comments! :-) Something like freezer screen printing I think?
Oliver's face cracks me up! Maybe the flash was a little too bright!
Dish cloth bibs
from Auntie Kori. I love them so much I'm letting Charlotte break them in a bit. Very absorbent with lots of shirt coverage!
I'd love to hear your latest projects. I have so many crafts in the works for Thanksgiving and Christmas I have no hope of finishing all of them. Especially now that the twins have stopped sleeping all day!
So true, Erin. I think it's partly the economy too. I am in LOVE with those books. That is so creative and so detailed. I'd love to say that person should sell them, but I imagine that you'd have to charge a TON with all the hours that I'm sure went into them.
ReplyDeleteThose books are really cute. Nice so many people are crafty. I'm not.
ReplyDeleteI love the alphabet books!
ReplyDeleteI think I've only been on Etsy once. For me it has more to do with becoming a stay-at-home mom with more time on my hands. My sister-in-laws and mother-in-laws have taught me the few things I've gotten into. It's fun and I have a ton more I would love to learn.
ReplyDeleteEverything is adorable....unfortunately I don't have a crafty bone in my body- or I'm not a perfectionist so I'm not willing to be so meticulous on certain projects. I love to support crafty people by shopping on etsy- but making the stuff? Only in my dreams....
ReplyDeleteI love all those ideas! The books are awesome! I have been crocheting hats and such recently. I make bandanna bibs. they look like cowboys!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you liked them!
ReplyDeleteI love appliques and I think I need to try that freezer screen printing? I love Etsy. It's my go-to for ideas. Sadly, I don't buy too often from there. I always try to make it first... unless it's crochet or knit! I like the bib that Charlotte has on too. I might need to try that one for a little, very messy 20 month old that I know.
ReplyDeleteI must get your sister to make a couple of those bibs for Easton. What a life saver and they actually cover their clothes.
ReplyDeleteYou got such cute things. I love those alphabet books! And the bibs sound awesome. The onesies were done with freezer paper stenciling. It's super easy and fun. You cut a design out of freezer paper (get it at the grocery store by the foil) with an exacto knife, then iron the paper onto the onesie. It has a plastic layer on one side that will melt and stick to the fabric, sealing the edges of the stencil so paint can't bleed through. Then you paint the design (matte fabric paint) with a sponge stencil brush, let it dry, and then peel off the freezer paper! Perfect for non-crafty people like me. :)
