After the beach we dropped the kids off with my brother and his wife and my little sister for the rest of the afternoon and overnight and the real "vacation" started. We always like to take a trip by ourselves before we have another baby- up until now I'd never left the twins overnight and Charlotte had only been away a couple of days when the twins were born. We don't leave our kids enough, but you feel bad when 2 of them were still in diapers! The bed and breakfast we stayed at on our honeymoon seems to have closed so I found this bed and breakfast, Jamul Haven, instead- it was a little way from San Diego but it was worth it!
The J makes an H sound so it sounds like an alliteration with Haven.
Man oh man was this place nice! And relaxing! And beautiful!
The gated entrance
We stayed in the celtic room- our bed was in the 1st floor of the turret of this old Victorian era house.
They bought the claw foot tubs from a brothel in Kansas City and refinished them. It took me 20 minutes to figure out the right water temperature/pressure and then it was lovely.
The "Angel House" kitchen- they keep it stocked with drinks and snacks that are included with the cost.
For dinner we went into downtown San Diego and ate at an Argentine restaurant Puerto La Boca steak house. The empanadas were so good- and Matt said authentic. His milanesa was good, but my steak was perfect! If you want to try authentic Argentine food we recommend it. They had some nice live music as well. Matt was a trooper and didn't complain about his sting ray injury even though he had to limp around downtown to get to the restaurant from our parking spot.
The breakfast the next morning was the best we've EVER had. EVER. We were the only ones there- so it felt a little strange to have 3 women waiting on us. They started out with a buffet of fruit, pastries, and toast (and about 8 kinds of fancy jam) while they cooked our order. They made delicious hot chocolate for us too.
This is Matt's Dutch baby pancake- it's kind of like a souffle or Yorkshire pudding texture.
I had the California Frittata with spinach, avocado, olives, mushrooms, tomatoes it was AMAZING. They have their own chickens so you can have fresh eggs. It had potatoes and bacon on the side. Neither one of us could finish and it felt like a crime to leave such good food uneaten.
The amazing pool and spa- I loved the waterfalls and it had a really cool water slide.
It had a lot of mordern conveniences that the other 2 bed and breakfasts we stayed at didn't have. All the guest rooms are in the Victorian house, then you eat breakfast in the outdoor pool/house porch in between.
On the other side of the pool house is where the owners live in this house. The back of the house has a separate staircase to the exercise room, game room, and dance room. It was pretty cool- even if we weren't there long enough to enjoy all of it. It would be awesome for a family get-away with other couples- not really small kid friendly.
The door to the Victorian house. There were so many beautiful details. I love Bed and Breakfasts. It really is a vacation all on it's own. I love the history behind the houses and how they personalize everything. I was so relaxed when we left!
