San Diego- La Jolla Shores Beach-Day 2

Sand Castles!
First time our kids played on a beach or saw the ocean really.  They loved it.  It was a little chilly and Matt and my brother Cody were the only 2 to really go swimming.  It was so relaxing after Sea World to have most of a day of just lounging/digging on the beach and wading while Matt boogie boarded to his heart's content.
Olly and my niece Eliza were equally excited about the bugs in the sand.  When I asked Olly his favorite part of San Diego he said, "The bugs!"  My kids were thrilled to see a caterpillar too for the first time- poor desert kids!
We heart Marti! We talked my sister into going to San Diego for the 2nd time in a month!
Best sandbox EVER!
Matt was so excited to take the girls in the ocean for their first time.
We unfortunately saw a lot of Olly's backside.  These swim trunks fit last summer with a swim diaper but they were WAY too big this year without one.  We tried a safety pin but it wasn't enough.  Unfortunately his white little bum did get sunburned!
Cool uncle Cody and Matt would spin the kids around in circles on the boogie boards.
Matt loves the beach!  He was talking about being beach bums when we retire for a while there...

We met up with our high school friends Karl and Paula and their families at the beach as well.  Karl dug the BEST sand pit ever- the kids played in it for hours after they left.
My kids thought it was freezing in the morning.
Karl's fan club- probably pushing the sand back in the hole- Kate, Eliza, and Charlotte
Abby took a nap like this.
26 weeks pregnant with baby boy
The sand pit and Olly's bum.  He had about a pound of sand in his shorts.

Matt went back out to body surf one last time before we left and hit his back wrong on a wave and was stung by a sting ray.  Cody rushed him back to his apartment in his car and soaked his foot in HOT water until it started to feel better.  I told him there were easier ways to avoid packing up the kids and beach stuff.  Marti and I were quite a picture walking down the beach with 3 of the kids and all our stuff.  I almost took a picture of him bleeding all over the sand- now I wish I had- but I felt bad at the time.
Despite the sting ray incident it was a perfect day at the beach!
