The kids all did swim lessons with a private teacher, Miss Allison, for about a month this summer in June/July! This was the twins' first year. Charlotte's class would go first for half an hour then the twins would go next. An hour in the Arizona heat in the third trimester- even in the shade with water was not pleasant.
Charlotte improved so much this year! She started to learn different strokes and how to turn her head and come up for breath. She was with younger kids last year and a class of older kids this year. I think it made her want to push herself because she saw the older girls swimming the whole way across. I wish I could practice with her more but it's impossible to take 3 (now 4) non-swimming kids by myself and we don't have a pool.
Charlotte's first year of swimming was the worst parenting experience for me to date but I had hope the twins more sociable personalities would do well and they did! Abby was fearless like Charlotte- she even tried to swim across the deep end when the swim teacher and I were busy getting Olly to jump off the diving board. Luckily we saw her quickly.
Olly was more nervous but he liked it. He would nervous laugh when he had to do something new. Abby jumped off the diving board by herself the 2nd time they tried. Olly took a couple of weeks before he would do it alone. One day after Abby jumped off alone she sat on the step next to Olly and said, "That's how you do it brother!" and the twin rivalry begins.
I love that they're holding hands waiting their turn to swim.
And the best part of swim lessons- ice cream once a week!
